In Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, such a disease has been detected inside a person, which is caused by killer plant fungus. Killer plant is a disease caused by fungus. This is the first person in the world who has got this disease. Please tell that the patient is a professional plant mycologist, who is 61 years old and had spent a lot of time doing research on rotting material, mushrooms and fungi of various plants.
Please tell that there was heaviness in the voice of the infected person, he was having difficulty in eating anything. After which he went to a hospital in Kolkata. Where the doctors told him that he has been complaining of cough, fatigue and difficulty in swallowing for three months. Doctors did X-ray and CT scan of the young man. After which the chest X-ray came normal in the report, but the CT scan report showed a paratracheal abscess in his neck. After which the doctors treated and removed the abscess and sent a sample to the “WHO Collaborating Center for Reference and Research on Fungi of Medical Importance” for testing. Where he was diagnosed with Chondrosterium purpureum.
Doctors told that he had no history of diabetes, HIV infection, kidney disease, any chronic disease, consumption of immunosuppressive drugs or trauma. The doctors said that he was working with long-decomposed material, mushrooms and fungi of various plants as part of his research activities.
Chondrosterium purpureum is a plant fungus that causes silver leaf disease in plants, particularly those in the rose family. This is the first instance of a plant fungus causing disease in humans. The report states that conventional techniques (microscopy and culture) have failed to identify the fungus. Only through sequencing can the identity of this unusual pathogen be known. This case highlights the potential of environmental plant fungi to cause disease in humans and emphasizes the importance of molecular techniques to identify the causative fungal species.
The researchers wrote that, “After two years of follow-up, the patient made a complete recovery and there is no evidence of re-infection.
