If you miss your train, first you have to fill the ticket deposit receipt, which is also done by TDR. If your train is missed and your ticket is confirmed, in such a situation the ticket cannot be cancelled. To get your money back, you can only get the TDR amount back.

How to fill TDR?

While filling this form, you have to mention the reason for not being able to travel in the train. You will get your money back only after filling this form. It is to be noted that TDR can be filed within 1 hour of the departure of the train. Earlier passengers had to fill this form through ticket counter only, but now Railways has restored the facility of filling TDR online as well.

When do I get refund?

It is mentioned in the railway rules that this refund is done within 45 to 60 days. However, on many occasions this refund is done within 15 days. The special thing to note is that TDR can be filed only on confirmed tickets, this arrangement is not available on waiting or RAC tickets.
